The Story of Bones and Holes
The Story of Bones and Holes was released in September 2026. It will consist of 18 chapters. This mainly takes place in the Bnoes and Holes areas in Roperia.
Chapter #1: The Tremor[edit]
You'll need to have unlocked Sepulcro del Sol in order to start this area.
Bones and Holes: A fissure's cracked open off Sepulcro del Sol and a man in a velvet expedition coat climbed out of it declarin' he's found “the eighth sea.” His name's Julio Verne, and he's short one wrangler - though he won't say what for.
Sail to Sepulcro del Sol
Alternatively, you can head to that island and double back. It will then prompt the next step
Journal entry is as follows:
The ground shakes off Sepulcro del Sol and does not stop, and when it does a fissure is open where the seabed used to be. You lean over the edge of it, and the hole goes down further than the lantern does. Then a man in a velvet expedition coat climbs out of the hole, plants a flag on what he takes for a dock piling, and watches the dock piling swim off with it. His name is Julio Verne. He says he has found the eighth sea. He also says he went in three weeks ago and a long way from here, which is either a lie or the whole point. He is recruiting a cantina crew to go and find Mictlan, and he will not say why.
Earl signs on for the snacks. Deckhand Deb signs on because somebody sensible has to.
Chapter #2: Into the Fissure[edit]
Bones and Holes: Ye're tied up at Sepulcro del Sol when the fissure cracks open and a man in a velvet expedition coat climbs out of it declarin' he's found “the eighth sea.” His name's Julio Verne, he's lookin' ye straight in the eye, and he's short one wrangler - though he won't say what for.
Meet Julio Verne https://fishwrangler.com/my?bh=meet-julio
Julio Verne is recruiting a crew! The man in the velvet coat does not shake your hand so much as annex it. “Julio Verne. I have found the eighth sea.” He points at a hole in the ground. Behind him Cap'n Jozek looks into the same hole and decides dirt is not his ocean.
next step:
Bones and Holes: Julio's signed ye on and he's already climbin' back down the hole. The fissure bottoms out at Fossil Hollow - sail down there and see what he's dragged ye into.
Sail to Fossil Hollow
Journal entry is as follows
Down you go, and then sideways, for days. The fissure at Sepulcro del Sol is a mouth, not a destination - under the seabed it runs leagues off to the west before it ever turns down again, and when the water finally opens over your head you are nowhere near where you went in. Corona, who has been quiet the whole way, says the crack you fall into is never the crack you come out of, and marks Fossil Hollow on the map a long way from the hole you entered.
Julio narrates every catch as heroism, including the ones that get away, which he describes as strategic. Deb grinds the living fossils of the Hollow for Amber Shards and hands them over without comment, which is her way of saying she has done this before with other people's expeditions.
Chapter #3: Earl Rigs the Drill[edit]
next step:
Bones and Holes: Down into the fissure ye go, Julio narratin' every catch like it's a saga. Nothin' ye own'll hold in there - the Bone Pole is the only rig built for it.
Purchase the Bone Pole.
Purchased the Bone Pole! Spent 75,000 silver, Purchased the Bone Pole! (Had xxx silver, have xx) Next: Bone Pole's in yer hands, but ye can't dig blind. Learn Spelunking 101 from Deckhand Deb so ye don't dig straight into yer own boat.
next step:
Bones and Holes: Bone Pole's in yer hands, but ye can't dig blind. Learn Spelunking 101 from Deckhand Deb so ye don't dig straight into yer own boat.
Learn the Spelunking 101 skill. You will need to take a quiz and pay 350k silver for each try on this.
Once you pass the quiz
result: Spelunking 101! I learned the Spelunking 101 Skill. Spent 350,000 silver to take the course. Passed the quiz - answered all 4 questions correct! Next Step: Fifty Amber Shards and Cousin Earl'll weld ye a Bathy-Drill out of a clam-shucker and two propellers - “she'll dig to the core or die tryin', with a little twine and a lotta lyin'.” Grind the fossils at Fossil Hollow for Amber, then build it at Earl's Dig Rig.
Journal entry is as follows:
The Bone Pole will catch you the shallow fossils, but the drill goes where the lantern does not. You cannot dig blind. Learn Spelunking 101 from Deb first - three rules, and the one about the rope is the one everyone skimps on. Nothing Earl builds opens until you have.
Fifty Amber Shards, and Cousin Earl welds a Bathy-Drill out of a clam-shucker and two propellers. 'She'll dig to the core or die tryin', he says, with a little twine and a lotta lyin'.' One puff of smoke. Then she runs, which surprises everybody including Earl. Earl's Dig Rig is open, and the Fissure Mouth with it.
Chapter #4: The Lava Tubes[edit]
Collect 50 Amber Shards. Build Contraption 1: Bathy-drill.
Earl: "Amber in, contraption out. Earl's whole business model, right there." Built Bathy-Drill! A clam-shucker and two propellers. She digs. Spent 50 Amber Shards (had 51, now 1).
Journal entry is as follows:
Corona arrives already holding an “I survived the Lava Tubes” mug, which nobody sells anywhere, and declines to explain. Earl calls her Miss Crown-a. She rigs the Magma Suit Deep Freeze - the old lava suit, rated deeper, cooled by a bigger ice maker - and it pays back more amber than it costs to run, which Earl regards as a personal insult to his whole trade.
The Crabxiety shares his couch for one session. Nobody leaves calmer.
Chapter #5: Reading the Way Down[edit]
Collect 100 Amber Shards and build Contraption 2: Magma Suit Deep Freeze.
result:
Bones and Holes: The Mosatuber's rigged himself a camera and is beggin' YE for a subscribe mid-dive. Land him if ye like, then build the Jelly Seismograph (150 Amber Shards) - it reads the way down to the reef floor, and 10% of the time it'll land a fish yer pole is up to 3 levels too low for.
Journal entry is as follows:
The Mosatuber livestreams the descent and begs for subscribers between breaths. Everyone ignores him, which he also films.
The Jelly Seismograph only wobbles when Julio monologues, so the crew keeps him talking, which requires no effort at all. It reads the way down to the reef floor - and now and then it hauls in a fish the pole is up to 3 levels too weak to land.
Chapter #6: The Core Reef[edit]
Collect 150 Amber Shards and build Contraption 3: Jelly Seismograph result:
Built the Jelly Seismograph! Earl: "Built her out of what the fissure had most of. Which was bones." Reads the way down to the reef floor. Bonus: 10% of the time it lands a fish your pole is up to 3 levels too low for. Spent 150 Amber Shards (had xxx, now xxx).
next step:
Bones and Holes: Ye've reached the reef floor under Fossil Hollow - the livin' Pangaea sea itself. The Holliday Dinodad wants ye in the family photo and Julio steps out of the frame every time. He keeps a portrait tucked in that coat, keeps droppin' it, keeps not explainin' it. Somethin' gold's been flashin' at the bottom of the reef - go see what.
Journal entry is as follows:
The living Pangaea sea, still down here, still going, having never been told it ended. Corona confirms her map was right all along and does not gloat, which is worse.
Julio keeps a portrait tucked in his coat. He keeps dropping it. He keeps picking it up without explaining it. The Holliday Dinodad asks the crew for a family photo and Julio steps out of frame.
Chapter #7: TBD[edit]
Find Golden Gemology:
Catch a Golden Gemology Fish, which requires a pole level of 44.
