Fungus Freda
Fungus Freda sporadically visits wranglers fishing in Enchanted Island, especially if you are using a Skeletal Sinker. Originally known as Fungus Fred, name was changed to Freda some time in mid-November 2024.

The encounter[edit]
When making a cast and he approaches, you will see a message like this:
Fungus Freda is nearby...
Enchanted Island is home to Fungus Freda
(second message now replaced by Other encounter messages below)
Select an option!
- Stay calm and don't move.
- Take off and run.
- Offer my next few catches. (depends on the Fungus Freda's hunger)
- Attack with your Skeletal Sinker! (works best with a level 45+ Skeletal Sinker)

- “No! Fungus Freda strikes with a cloud of spores, leaving me coughing as I flee! Took 4,079 silver from me.”

Note: Fungus Freda will take your next 1-3 catches (excluding crew and captain trips). You will not receive points, silver, or pole experience for these catches. You will receive quest credit for the fish if otherwise applicable. Other encounters in Farovia/Roperia will accept catches on behalf of Fungus Freda if you travel away.

Fungus Fred Collectable Set[edit]
Collectables are a "glory award" / "achievement award" that wranglers can show off. There are a set of collectibles related to Fungus Freda, which vary in rarity

Heh, them mushrooms don't just glow. Last time I touched it, I saw colors I ain't seen since 1982!
This collectable may be randomly dropped when choosing "Offer catches" and escaping Fungus Freda
Mushroom Soul Seed
That lil' seed there? It ain't no seed! It's a piece o' ghost fungus! It'll sprout right in your hand if ya ain't careful!
Randomly gained after choosing "Stay calm and don't move" and successfully hiding from Fungus Freda
Mushroom Mask
Wearing the Mushroom Mask connects the wearer to the mind of the forest, hearing whispers from the ancient fungal networks.
Randomly gained after choosing "Run away" and successfully escaping Fungus Freda
Turning in the Fungus Freda Collection will yield 3 Glow Worms, 8 Red Sharks, and unlocks the Joan of Myers Fish.
Tips[edit]
Fungus Freda is linked to the other encounters in terms of how often he appears. If you have interacted with others and already chose an option, you should be free from encountering Fungus Freda for about two hours. he will collect the silver and points if you offered catches from another encounter.
