Description: Alan Bartlett Shepard Jr. was an American astronaut, naval aviator and test pilot. He was one of the original Mercury Seven, and in 1961 he became the first American to travel into space. In 1971, he walked on the Moon as part of his second space flight as Commander of Apollo 14.
