Roperian Geography[edit]

  • Nothing to apologize about. Everything can be fixed as long as we know how.
    • The above that you mentioned; I'm a bit pedantic about the whole grammar and spelling thing, so I did it with spaces (Planet Mercury instead of PlanetMercury), but maybe I should change that, solely for making it accurate to the game rather than my version of the game; User:Miyuki told me the same thing.
    • Fixed the WaterPort link; maybe we can use the disambiguation pages, not going to lie; that might just be a good solution to most of the same-named, differently-functioning parts of the game. Like the WaterPort page can be the main disambiguation pages with a description of WP itself, while WaterPort (Island), WaterPort (Fish List) and WaterPort (Quest) can be the re-directs to their respective pages. That might help consolidate a lot of crap into unified locations without there being so many various links to the same thing.

  • Looking good 👍 You really do like things neat. Fishy Wrangler (talk) 20:29, 11 July 2025 (UTC)

Disambiguation[edit]

For WaterPort the Island, see WaterPort (Island).
For WaterPort the Super Bonus Quest, see WaterPort (Quest).
For WaterPort's list of fish, see WaterPort (Fish List).

  • I'm confused how the templates would work; wouldn't it just be the page of Waterport with a {{disambiguation}} tag? Or did I mix shit up? AMNeSia (talk) 20:44, 11 July 2025 (UTC)

  • There's the Disambiguation guide as well, but I'll be honest, I have trouble understanding things on Wikipedia at times, so I'm genuinely confused about how both work. Both are templates, that much is obvious, but how they differ is where I'm confused. AMNeSia (talk) 21:10, 11 July 2025 (UTC)

  • Wikipedia is very confusing 😕 Our Template:Disambig looks like it's just a page header that adds a disambiguation category. I see there is a way to add a parameter, but it's not clear what it does. Might just have to try a few things. Fishy Wrangler (talk) 21:25, 11 July 2025 (UTC)

  • Well, the disambiguation template doesn't even exist, while Template:For does...might as well just use it, since it won't make much difference either ways. Just got to be careful to put it up at the top of the page; we can figure out disambiguation later; I've asked on MediaWiki's Discord server, so hopefully, it'll be simpler. AMNeSia (talk) 21:28, 11 July 2025 (UTC)
  • I tried and screwed up partially; you might want to check WaterPort out yourself and try to fix what I tried to do...basically, since there's 3 poles, they should all be linked when it comes to the SBQ, but IDK how to format the template properly.
  • Created a disambiguation template; apparently there's also Template:Disambig...oh, well. Might want to check it.
    • Also reverted your Waterport edit since now, WaterPort has been turned into a disambiguation page. Might want to experiment with that. AMNeSia (talk) 23:03, 11 July 2025 (UTC)
  • WaterPort is now working, courtesy of the MediaWiki Discord server...too much gratitude to them and their knowledge of Lua, because I suck at it. Had to fix Template:For for it, so, uh...I guess we're in business? AMNeSia (talk) 02:04, 12 July 2025 (UTC)
    • Actually took a few more hours to fix this crap; the template was a major pain, not going to lie...I'm so exhausted, it's not even funny. FML, honestly. AMNeSia (talk) 03:12, 12 July 2025 (UTC)

  • Wow! You have been busy while I was sleeping. You even added the little disambiguation icon. Even links back to the disambiguation page from the island and fish pages! That is some robust disambiguation 👍 Fishy Wrangler (talk) 05:52, 12 July 2025 (UTC)

  • That's OCD for you; I'm still going, for some reason, even when I'm supposed to sleep due to not having slept at night. Major FML moment. But yea, the current WaterPort disambiguation is a base-line for how to do it; making more disambiguation pages and adding them appropriately is going to hurt due to significant work for each + fixing the broken links. AMNeSia (talk) 06:14, 12 July 2025 (UTC)

  • I will help out with the broken links later, lots of them can be found here and here. All the fish will need doing, but I don't think it will fix the WaterPort (Location)#Population table. I might just make the table rather than try to fix that. Then I could add the list of one day fish in there too. I think all locations with an apostrophe (i.e Sig's Wasteland) have broken what to catch tables because the fish point at the location without the apostrophe(i.e. Sigs Wasteland). Go to sleep. Fishy Wrangler (talk) 09:13, 12 July 2025 (UTC)

  • Table's broken because all the individual fish pages use WaterPort rather than WaterPort (Location). Once that's changed, it'll work. This is also probably why a main disambiguation page was not a good idea; the For template might've been used with the main WaterPort remaining a location while the template is put up in the sections needed for the other pages. I'm going to try fixing this by moving the page again. AMNeSia (talk) 13:45, 12 July 2025 (UTC)
    • Managed to make it much more elegant by removing the disambiguation page entirely, reverting the original articles to their names. Check both WaterPort and Template:Waterport. This should work for everything else as needed with minimal work. Now I'm off for a day or few. Laters. AMNeSia (talk) 14:08, 12 July 2025 (UTC)
    • That is really good. I may have done some link edits that I will need to undo. I don't see the option to roll back to previous versions on on the history pages on my phone. I'll roll em back when skiving at work Monday. Fishy Wrangler (talk) 18:38, 12 July 2025 (UTC)
    • I think I copied what you did to Fishertonville and Magma Reef 🤞🤞🤞 Fishy Wrangler (talk) 19:20, 12 July 2025 (UTC)

  • I edited the Template:FishInfo and now the Farovia fish summary is broken. The template works fine, the summary needs fixture. AMNeSia (talk) 14:50, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
    • Summary table's fixed; the Miny code is now the base code since the Infoboxes will require a separate page for each fish if the fish pages are modified. FML...though I'll be modifying fish one-at-a-time...over 1993 days. Pain at its finest. AMNeSia (talk) 17:52, 13 July 2025 (UTC)

  • Five and a half years is a large commitment to a project that is lots of repetitive tasks. Can you use a bot for that?
  • I see that admins can find and replace text globally. So if any link fixing is more than a couple of pages, then we should probably ask an admin for assistance.
    • Weren't you going to take a break for a few days? Fishy Wrangler (talk) 21:20, 13 July 2025 (UTC)

  • Well...problem is the text can't just be replaced; the fish info-box is a template and needs to be inserted on each page...or, in this case, create a new page and insert the template into both the fish page and the summary. Don't think it'll be as simple as replacements, though you can ask for administrative permissions on the in-game Forums and try to make it work? In a sandbox, unlike me who seems to keep editing live pages...
    • And blame the OCD for not taking a break. AMNeSia (talk) 07:12, 14 July 2025 (UTC)
  • FINALLY fixed the Farovia fish summary via the Fish summary row...this was a MAJOR fucking pain since the Wikitext is basically incomprehensible to me and I can barely make sense of the manuals on MediaWiki, but...maybe this isn't my place; I should stick to prettying things rather than changing base code. Oh, well...but now, at least the fish pages will be much better-looking and for the whole '5 years' part...can do a few fish a day to speed it up. Low-stress, high consistency. AMNeSia (talk) 10:42, 14 July 2025 (UTC)

  • I am happy that you fixed them, the new Miny Fish looks really good, I am still concerned about the length of time it will take without any automation. I think that looking at the Wiki API help is a good idea. Then when new fish are released, there will be less work to do, or no work to do if a bot can scrape the new fish information automatically. This would be a large undertaking, but then so is what you are doing. Fishy Wrangler (talk) 14:58, 14 July 2025 (UTC)

  • I'll leave that to you if you want to; programming's neither my thing and I don't have energy for it either (and the messes I made before fixing it mean I'm better off sticking to the simpler stuff). I'll just stick to the routine of a few fish every day when I can; if you want and manage to automate things, we'll do it your way. AMNeSia (talk) 18:04, 15 July 2025 (UTC)

Wiki Tutorial[edit]

  • Please, can you take a look at Wiki Tutorial for me? Fishy Wrangler (talk) 18:33, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
  • Damn...genuinely impressive; you're not just catching on fast but doing really great work. Nice; I love the tutorial! AMNeSia (talk) 21:37, 15 July 2025 (CDT)
  • I have started the Wiki Action Plan, it's basically empty and got crappy formatting, but I am going to start adding things to it when I see things that need work. I think it will help new users, at least there will be something for them to do if anyone does show up. Fishy Wrangler (talk) 04:01, 16 July 2025 (CDT)
  • It's good enough for anyone to start with. Impressive work, honestly; glad you're doing this and glad to have you around. Also, are you on Discord? AMNeSia (talk) 11:28, 16 July 2025 (CDT)
  • I have used Discord in the past, but I don't have the app on my phone anymore and I don't remember what email I signed up with. I use email and WhatsApp for all my communication needs nowadays. Fishy Wrangler (talk) 03:23, 17 July 2025 (CDT)
    • I just tried to confirm my email on the Preferences page and got an error:
    • Fish Wrangler could not send your confirmation mail. Please check your email address for invalid characters.
    • Mailer returned: authentication failure [SMTP: Invalid response code received from server (code: 534, response: 5.7.9 Please log in with your web browser and then try again. • Is the Wiki able to send any emails? I don't think I have seen any? Do you think it is trying to use a gmail SMTP server? Google used to let you use them for free, but not anymore. A friend of mine had this issue a few years ago because they were using google for their webshop emails. They ended up using Brevo because they give 300 emails a day on a free account. Fishy Wrangler (talk) 03:40, 17 July 2025 (CDT)
  • Well, you can just create a new account and join in. And as for e-mail...I use the Wiki without an e-mail address, but I think it is broken since I tried it once and couldn't get it to work either. Joe will have to fix it; the MediaWiki said that basically all the scripts on this Wiki are broken, the mail thing might be broken due to that as well.
    • Also, down with cold and cough; fever too. Will be out of commission for a bit. AMNeSia (talk) 12:51, 17 July 2025 (CDT)

Dodgy Table[edit]

  • What's going on here? I'm not even sure what they wanted to put in that table.
  • Well...the table was supposed to be fine before I, uh...edited the fish templates, remember? The table is a list of the good/evil points each fish provides, but the modifications have led to...well...that. The Points (Farovia - Morality) page requires editing, just like the Farovia fish summary did. The work never ends...FML...why did I even decide to fix the aesthetics?
    • Thanks; not better but still surviving. AMNeSia (talk) 13:15, 18 July 2025 (CDT)
  • Looks like you fixed it 👍. I've just made a mistake, I tagged too many fish. It thinks there are 1996 fish now and I know there should be one missing. I'm gonna have to go through them all and find the duplicates and any equipment that I put in by mistake 😐 Fishy Wrangler (talk) 02:39, 19 July 2025 (CDT)
  • Welcome to the mines. #WorkLife2025 AMNeSia (talk) 01:47, 21 July 2025 (CDT)

Population Colours[edit]

Before you get too far with your fish beautification. Do you think the populations should be colour coded like in the game? I personally don't think it makes a difference either way, but it's worth thinking about before you get too far in.

Fishy Wrangler (talk) 06:06, 21 July 2025 (CDT)

  • I'm already stuck trying to fix the broken template; Farovia and Roperia fishes use different templates and trying to modify the base Template:FishInfo does not work for some reason. I'm at my wits' end already; if I manage to fix that, I'll implement this as well. AMNeSia (talk) 06:20, 21 July 2025 (CDT)
  • Like I said, they're both used; I'm trying to replace them with a single template to avoid waste. I think I might have a solution by editing Template:FishInfobox (painful)... AMNeSia (talk) 06:33, 21 July 2025 (CDT)
    • Finally managed to get the results I needed (admittedly using Copilot). Template:FishInfo and Template:FishInfobox have bow been fixed, you can get familiar with them because the parameters have changed. Now:
  • {{{points}}} parameter is either {{{faroviapoints}}} or {{{roperiapoints}}}.
  • {{{tourney_pts}}} is either {{{faroviatourneypoints}}} or {{{roperiatourneypoints}}}.
  • The entire infobox has been changed a bit, so familiarization will help; I am exhausted, so I'll do the Miny Fish and possibly take a break. Screw Wikitext... AMNeSia (talk) 08:39, 21 July 2025 (CDT)
  • Looking good. I haven't used Copilot before, but if it is a tool that fixes the incomprehensible problems in Wikitext, then it sounds really good. I have just been adding to the action plan, but I got annoyed when the wiki stopped working and gave up on it Fishy Wrangler (talk) 02:28, 22 July 2025 (CDT)
  • Yea, the Wiki kept throwing 502 errors yesterday...barely usable. I'll get back to editing the fishes as I can.
  • Speaking of which, the infobox template works for now...as for the fish population thing, I got an idea that should be possible, but we'll see. Breaking it again is not my fancy...
    • Also, use a new e-mail or anything to join up on Discord; way easier to communicate there. AMNeSia (talk) 10:56, 22 July 2025 (CDT)
