Native Summary[edit]

Open Seas Fish are those that can be caught by wranglers by trolling in the Open Seas. Using a Trolling Net hand-crafted by Earl or shuttling[1] between the regions of Farovia & Roperia, wranglers can catch the previously inaccessible, deep-water fish to add to their collection on their mantle-pieces.

Mechanics[edit]

Catch Procedure[edit]

  • Catching an Open Seas Fish requires the following:
  1. Purchase of the Trolling Net[2].
  2. Then either:
  • travelling to any island, with a minimal travel time of two minutes[3].
  • or shuttling[1] between Farovia and Roperia.
  • Upon doing so, the results will be one of a random three, split between either:
    • the lack of a catch, in which case there will be no message.
    • a miss, which the Waterport Message Centre will notify[4] of at the top.
    • a catch, also shown by messages in the notifications tab.

Notes[edit]

  • The Net will only be deployed on trips longer than two minutes[3].
    • Longer trips, for obvious reasons, provide a greater chance of catching one of these fish.
  • A fish caught via trolling through the open seas (using the Net) in either Farovia or Roperia, will result in the Net and the fish being irreversibly tangled up, requiring a replacement to catch another Open Seas Fish via trolling.
  • The Net, due to hydro-dynamic drag, slows down a wrangler's boat by ~10%, but the slower speed and the Net itself enable a chance to reel in the deep-water fish.
    • Wranglers can disable their Nets to travel faster, but will have to re-enable them if they want to catch the any of the trolling fish.
  • If wranglers turn their boat around, they may get messages of losing a fish that was caught in the Net. These messages are false-positives, added for immersive/lore purposes; the open-sea fish are caught only upon arrival to the destination and are not actually caught in transit due to game-play limitations.

Trivia[edit]

  • 2012, April: The initial 'Open Seas' feature was released with 5 total fish (2 trolling, 3 shuttling) to catch.
  • 2021, December 02: A further set was released with 7 total fish (5 trolling, 2 shuttling) to catch.
  • In-game, the Open Seas Fish will be listed on the All of the Fish drop-down in the Fish menu that's in the top menu bar. These fish will be listed at the very end, in the Others category.
