Note there are no scaled difficulty levels. They are replaced by some descriptions. There are 8 Volcanic Drill-rig Dishes.

Volcanic Fondant

• Difficulty: First Bore
  
• Description: Poured hot off the vent and left to set on a slab of cooled glass. It comes off in one sheet if you time it and in eleven pieces if you do not. Earl has timed it once.

Geode Ice Cream

• Difficulty: Warm Work
  
• Description: Cracked open at the table because the galley refuses to spoil it, and the inside is a color nobody has agreed on. It is served at temperature, which down here means warm. Nobody has complained twice.

Lava Lasagna

• Difficulty: Glass Cut
  
• Description: Layered in a tray that was a shovel blade until last Tuesday. The top sets into a crust you have to tap with the back of a spoon, and the crew has made a small ceremony of the tapping.

Amber Fritters

• Difficulty: Vent Run
  
• Description: Fried in a batter with something fossil suspended in every single one of them, and the galley will not say what. You are meant to eat around it. Nobody ever has.

Piston Pot Roast

• Difficulty: Pressure Test
  
• Description: Braised in the rig housing for nine hours on the way back up, which is why the drill was down for nine hours. Earl has a written explanation and has never been asked for it.

• Difficulty: Melt Line
  
• Description: The galley posts a temperature before every service and the crew has never once believed it. The dish comes out the same regardless. The posting is the ritual.

• Description: Layered in a glass that has to be set down on a wet cloth or it walks off the table. The layers have rearranged themselves twice. Both times the crew ate it anyway.

• Description: Mashed in the bottom of the rig out of whatever the day turned up, and it has never tasted the same twice. Earl says that is the recipe. Earl has never written it down.
