I had to deal with radon in my basement, and the sealing sump pit was the main culprit. It's essentially a hole in the concrete floor for drainage, but it also creates a direct path for radon gas to seep in from the soil. I used a specific radon-resistant sump cover and sealed all the edges with polyurethane caulk to prevent that gas from entering the living space. It's a straightforward fix that makes a real difference in indoor air quality, especially if your home tests high for radon.
