Love. Joy. Panic. Acid reflux.It comes carrying a torch. Not a figure of speech. An actual torch. It lit the thing, held one long hum, and the whole bay went soft in the head: the seaweed curled itself into hearts, the moonlight turned to glitter, and every crab within a hundred yards flipped onto its back and stayed there.The Mariner wept openly, then carved a love poem into his mast, line by line, until the wood ran out. The islands got their name the next morning. Not for their size.We landed it, and for one moment the whole ocean hummed along.Tucked in its fin was a single heart-shaped scale, which settles the long argument about whether the Ancient Mariner made the whole thing up.The crabs were still on their backs when we sailed out. Far as we know they are there yet.
