Description: Mary Wallace "Wally" Funk was one of the Mercury 13, women who underwent testing and training for space flight as part of Project Mercury, the first human spaceflight program in the U.S. She scored higher than John Glenn did in his testing. Later, she was the first woman air safety investigator for the National Transportation Safety Board, and the first Federal Aviation Agency inspector.
