High Gold Cost for Addons / Poles[edit]
NOTE: Buyer beware if your a newer player & decide to purchase the pole/addons at full price to race with others but haven't yet completed all the other Farovian areas. You may become stuck unless you either have a lender, grind to earn gold, or buy gold with RLC.
The following is a brief attempt to explain possible reasons for the high gold costs involved as there's no official explanation given:
The Rocket Rod pole & addons are initially very expensive, and then drop by a standard amount every hour like the pole does, until they are only 16-18k. The high costs are done to decrease the amount of gold held by players who wish to join in the RLC race competition for Top 1-100 fish, and cut-back on any who can't afford the cost or simply don't think it's worth the price. (AKA the Gold suck). Ironically, it's similar to those who are rich & can afford to buy their kids "the best toys".
Other theories are so it can possibly avoid white pages and keep newer players from joining who would be wiser to wait & save their gold for the poles in the main storyline in FW. At the same time, the hourly reduction benefits those who are patient enough to wait so they can casually enjoy it later as a passive game. In this way, it creates a balance within the game and makes gold hold more value too.
While the addons & pole price are CURRENTLY at their lowest price for this pole, the point of this commentary is for future addons / poles bought that might reduce the gold you have & force you to grind if you decide to race with others.
