is there an easy way to catch the Houdini?

Use your Broken Standard in Fishertonville with RLC or Fish Guts Chum. There are less variety of fish for the Broken Standard there than in Waterport. If you have Antifreeze Protein, you could also use that to help repel the Cubeys and give you a better opportunity to catch the Houdini. Otherwise, it's just patience.
