Description: Neil Alden Armstrong was an American astronaut and aeronautical engineer who was the first person to walk on the Moon. In 1969, he and Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins completed the Apollo 11 mission to the Moon launched by a massive Saturn V rocket; he and Aldrin were the first two on the Moon. Before that historic event, he was a naval aviator and test pilot whose quick thinking and engineering knowledge saved him and his crews from several potentially fatal disasters, including his space flight on Gemini 8 in 1966. For his service, Armstrong received many awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
